Annual Sports Physicals at Beaumont Pediatric Center in Beaumont, TX

Is your little MVP ready to hit the field? Before they start any physical activities, make sure they’ve had their annual sports physical. Even if your child isn’t involved in group sports, it’s crucial to visit our pediatricians at Beaumont Pediatric Center each year for a comprehensive physical exam and health screening to ensure they are healthy enough for their activities.

What is the Purpose of a Sports Physical?

A sports physical, sometimes referred to as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), is a comprehensive health exam performed by our pediatricians to ensure that your child is fit to participate in sports. This physical is separate from their annual wellness checkup and does not replace it.

What is Involved in a Sports Physical?

When your child visits our Beaumont, TX office, our nursing staff will begin by taking their blood pressure, weight, height, and vitals. We will also perform a quick vision screening. Our pediatricians will then review your child's medical history and ask about past illnesses, hospitalizations, injuries, or surgeries. This information helps us identify potential issues early on to prevent future complications.

After reviewing the medical history, we will conduct a thorough physical examination, checking the heart, lungs, abdomen, and musculoskeletal system for any signs of asthma, heart murmurs, or past injuries that could affect their ability to participate in sports.

Why Are Sports Physicals Important for My Child?

Detecting health problems during these examinations doesn’t necessarily mean your child can’t play sports. It allows us to provide the necessary medication, lifestyle changes, and activity modifications to prevent serious health complications. For instance, a child with asthma may need both a daily and a rescue inhaler to manage symptoms, especially during physical activities. By addressing these needs now, we can prevent severe complications in the future.

Given that a child's health can change significantly in just one year, it’s vital to schedule a sports physical every year, ideally 4-6 weeks before the school year begins.

Kick off your child’s school year the right way by scheduling their sports physical with us. Call Beaumont Pediatric Center at (409) 899-1433 to book your child’s next physical.
